WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. A random additional substat is also added to each upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less valuable for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of armor or weapons. The item upgrade used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and can be visited anytime to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear current, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current level of the gear being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items which can be used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool with the help of button, which will display a preview of the item level Upgrade at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and the current level of the item as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than bracers or gloves, for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Upgraders for items can be found in a variety of locations including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by having players complete specific achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no item upgrader available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are available only via a variety of ways. This is both a positive and an issue.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with numerous new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade to a specific item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading further items to that same item level will cost less even in the event that they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have a variety of options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item upgrader kit level upgrades. Crests are an important element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment of a particular rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type or equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through content at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities, or by taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulties to get equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too complicated, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests only have one use therefore it's essential to use them properly. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The account-wide discount will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
