A Productive Rant About Item Upgrading
World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades can boost the value of weapons, armors and rings. They also increase bonuses, such as crit chance and PvE damage.
For example, a weapon with the upgrade template that is ending in % will suffer an attack damage of 3% each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).
The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost rises with item's level.
Components
Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons and trinkets in order to provide an extra stat boost or effect while they're in use. These can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors or trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can only be used on devices that have slots. The item must be upgraded to blue level before a component can be used. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied only once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component that is that is used to upgrade non-amulet ascended or legendary equipment and some of the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.
A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it is used on (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, which allows players to make stronger versions of the equipment that require fewer Upgrade Crystals than is required to achieve the same level of upgrade using normal methods.
A boost upgrade can change the attack or defence characteristics of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades are available to be crafted from the Portative Forging Station once the player completes the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. These upgrades can be purchased by purchasing them from the cash shop or by collecting them from enemies when upgrading other equipment.
The player can get up to five boost upgrades at a time; each upgrade increases the probability that a higher-level version of the item will appear at the time of the next reset. This gives players the opportunity to upgrade their gear, even in the event that they don't know what will be improved after a reset.
The process of upgrading an item could be costly and it is likely that the item will be obsolete, or even break, if the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed if the upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to decrease or eliminate the possibility of failure. Some upgrades also offer the player a bonus if they are reinserted.
Glyphs
Glyphs are upgrade parts that can be placed in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs boost the power of all nodes within the area around them and include pre-existing affixes to equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded a variety of ways, and we suggest getting them to level 15 whenever you can.
In the endgame you'll find that the best way to enhance your gear is to place Glyphs. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded straight to level 15 and offer significant boosts to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to get higher nodes more quickly.
The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced however Glyphs are the one upgrade component that can be removed and replaced without any restrictions. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires an Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.
Each Glyph has a certain range of values that it can improve a stat by, and the value is shown when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with a Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph.
You can find Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of a Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain unlimited-use gathering tools, and through Faction Crypt raids. Each Faction Crypt has a chance to drop one of the numerous Glyphs, and there are some rare glyphs to be found in the form of drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.
Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs then you need to place them on your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus which will boost the stats of a particular set of nodes within a radius around the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph it could be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.
Glyphs will boost all nodes connected to them, so it is recommended to place Glyphs in key places on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. Druids for instance, should place their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may be able to place them near their critical damage nodes.
Leveling
The item upgrade system allows players to boost the power of certain items by adding upgraded components. This is also known as "upping". Each upgradeable item level upgrade comes with a level that determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded until they reach a maximum level of ilvl 385. Each level requires a different number of components to reach, and the upgrade costs increase as the item is upgraded.
Some upgrades require a special ingredient to activate. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or bought from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to level up the item upgrades. Once enough points are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item level upgrade.
When the player upgrades an item upgrader kit it is replaced with a new item of the same type. This means that the same armor piece will become an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item also comes with its own set bonus. This can be a disadvantage because it can cause the item to become more expensive if you don't need it.
Upgrades to items can be rerolled if the player has enough reroll tokens to do this. This causes the item to be traded for a new one, with a level 1 base and a completely different set of bonuses. This can be useful however it should not be used frequently as it can waste resources.
Certain upgrades can boost their value and allow players to personalize their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants an increase in power if the player is repeatedly in or leaves the water. The item can be upgraded multiple times, increasing the maximum roll each time by 10 increments. This item is highly useful in PvP. A well-rolled version could be worth as much as 50x the value of its non-upgraded version.
Requirements
Item upgrading allows players to boost the quality of their equippable gear--armor, weapons and trinkets above ilvl 385--by providing the appropriate currency and items to an item upgrader NPC. Upgrading armor set pieces will also increase the base defense of the item, and upgrading weapons will increase the damage base and required strength and dexterity to match the requirements of the upgraded equipment.
Each item can be upgraded up to five times, except for hero gear that can have eight upgrades. Every each time you upgrade an item upgrader Kit, it is given the chance to fail. The rate of failure increases as you exceed the maximum amount of upgrades. Failures will cause the item to return to its original condition which means that the player has to spend additional items than if they stopped upgrading after the maximum number.
If an item does not upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. Additionally the item will lose any bonuses it gained such as crit chance, attack damage, as well as all additional effects associated with that effect (for example, increased heal over time or reload speed). The player will be able to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.
When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from the lowest to highest. This means that, should a weapon gain an increase in the chance of crit it will be applied prior to any increase in attack damage. A new attribute called Slots is now added to the definition of the item and the value is recomputed each time an upgrade is made.
The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item are based on its rarity rating and upgrade slot count. The cost of upgrading non-premium equipment is equivalent to its base value. For instance an item that is commonplace could have five upgrades at a cost of. 25,600 Technology Points and a 4x Quality Improvement Chance. Hero grade items will come with the lowest cost for each additional upgrade.
Premium items could require different upgrades than normal equipment. For example they might require fewer sowels, but more minerals and orons. The player will need to take each piece of gear they want to upgrade to NPC [ArmorBoboko. Boboko located in Central Flarine. Each upgrade to equipment requires different amounts of the ingredients needed to upgrade, in addition to the cost that are listed above.
