WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases item upgrade level by 3. Each upgrade item also boosts the random substatus.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and item level Upgrade cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current level of the equipment being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than buying new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. Players can purchase them from NPCs of item upgraders in a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show a preview of an item Level upgrade's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currency types.

Many locations offer item upgraders in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of getting the latest recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no item upgrader available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are available only through a variety of methods. This is both a positive and a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was modified a bit, and numerous new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade item to a specific level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading additional items to the same level will be less expensive, even in the event that they are part of an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is account-wide. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have several choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an item level upgrade that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment that is of a particular rank, and each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complicated can require as much as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content that is of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests can then be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, but it brings some changes to the process of upgrading. For instance, once an item is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they are only used for one purpose. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the highest-quality gear you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly applicable to trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
