1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they utilize intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like furniture leg. The robots also feature Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept at cleaning dog hair. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.
It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, best robot hoover however. If you need to, the mopping pad can be changed for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to offer better cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.
You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted area, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also great for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot autonomous vacuum/mop to complete the entire house with the battery at 66 percent left. It also did a great job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms that had various flooring types, such as certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant circular design that appears like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units This mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our tests. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has 100% in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has a simple mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to sleep.
It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and some extra cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and drys mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its automatic vacuum and mop cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the degree of dirt they tend to be.
For bigger homes it's recommended to choose models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also useful. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very beneficial.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. You can also create a spot-clean that scours a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robotic cleaner and mop vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
