The ability to upgrade items allows players to enhance their weapons and gear with new affixes, increasing its stats base or adding additional perks. To upgrade items, players must have the item in their inventory and access the kiln.

Typically, items that have weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a stronger base, while items with strong bases like eth titans do not vary much in their stats after being upgraded.

Upgrade components

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some significant variations from previous versions. Gear is now categorized in tracks and each item is able to be upgraded a certain number of times before it's "leveled out." The upgrade cost increases with each level up however, the materials needed aren't as high.
