WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. A random substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for those with lower requirements due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher item upgrader mod level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and is accessible at any time to upgrade items your equipment. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current item level of the gear being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than buying new equipment from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They can be bought by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, Item level upgrade an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will display the item's next upgrade level, when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and current item level, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items are available in many places including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and the chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade must be acquired through several methods that are both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with several new features added. After the player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This applies regardless of whether the items come from a different set of equipment.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is reduced as well, but is only available once certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a few options. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests based on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulty levels to obtain lower-level gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader for the item, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade items the Item level upgrade in the proper steps and routes.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, however it brings some modifications to the upgrade process. For example, once an item is at the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. It is best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly true for items like rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which will only be able to avail the account-wide discount when all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
