The upgrade of an item can be used to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost an item's Rarity or Mark Level and boost additional stats.

Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a certain amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's basic stats increases when it is upgraded. This is the sum of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, dependent on who you employ and what you do. This is due to how many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded.

The level of an item is a widely used measure of power, and can be seen on all item tooltips. It is also used as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to the lower levels). Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.

Utilizing the level of an item will allow players to compare the strength of equipment when deciding to purchase or sell. It's a good indicator of the quality of an item and how much damage it is able to deal. Comparing items in a vendor's stock can be done by using the item level.

The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are a few theories on how the item level calculation is made. One theory is that the level is a number derived from a formula that determines the amount an item upgrade's stats are worth. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different worth, and also that gems in sockets increase the item's overall value. This process can result in a calculated amount for the item's level, which is typically close to Blizzard's actual item level.

However, this isn't the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item upgrader mod, as the level of the area the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, for example by adding a level to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

The item upgrader mod's stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses them in various ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to a single weapon and to encourage them to try out other weapons. The stat mods of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's level.

Item upgrades add to that by boosting certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines the upgrade cost. For instance, a gray or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas an item with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.

Another method to alter the stats on an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can provide the item additional damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or reducing the cooldowns), or make the item unique by putting an additional name to the item.

Presently, all affixes are able to be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circles arrows. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold as well as items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other options for rerolling.

Players can choose to upgrade an item by a specific stat or reroll the affixes. This is particularly beneficial in early game runs because players tend to put defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability that increases with each level of the item and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to boost the existing Luck of an item, up to 140.

Additionally some items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be outfitted to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items are available from the shop or constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items can be expensive and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade fails.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on the extent to which success rates can be increased and the chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.

The success of an item can be affected by the luck of the item. Every item has a success rate of 25 percent and each item with Luck increases this chance by 5percent.

The upgrade overlays of the item are rendered above the items in the inventory. This can block enchantment effects as well as other effects.
