World of Warcraft item level upgrade Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it can boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
Upgrades to equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item upgrading by a specific amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's basic stats increase when it is upgraded. This is the sum of all its upgraded advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on who you hire and what you do. This is due to the fact that many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.
The level of an item is a commonly used measurement of power and is visible on all item tooltips. It also serves to determine a gating condition when waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is capped at the lower levels). Players can view their average item level in their character sheet.
When deciding to purchase or sell gear players can evaluate the item level. It's a useful indicator of the quality of an item and how much damage it is capable of dealing with. Comparing items in the inventory of a seller is possible using the item's level.
On PC, you can view the item level using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are a variety of theories on how the item level is calculated. One theory says that the item level is calculated by a formula that calculates how valuable an item's stats actually are. It takes into consideration the fact that various perks have different value, and also that sockets have gems that increase the value of the item overall. This could result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is usually very close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.
However, this isn't the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, since the size of the area the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, for instance by adding an amount to its haste rating or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have a higher value.
Item Stats
The item upgrade's stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses them in various ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to a single weapon, and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The stat mods on weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's skill.
The upgrades to an item can increase its stats. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. A white or grey item for instance, will only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times at higher costs.
Another way to change the stats of an item is to use affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and come in a variety of sizes and shapes. The affixes could provide the item extra damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or cutting down the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by giving an exclusive name to the item.
All affixes are currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. This will cost a certain amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges just like the other rerolling methods.
In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may select which of the available stats to keep on an Best item upgrade after it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are based on the level of the item, however all items are guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within that range, unless it is a unique item or a God roll from a raid boss.
This is another thing that can be modified by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or deciding which stats to increase. Like the base equipment, it must be done per item, and the interface for item comparison will not show all possible stats at once.
Item Luck
A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the odds of item discoveries and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the intensity of the properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives the player a possibility to obtain better equipment in earlier waves, and is therefore more valuable in the initial game run than later ones because most players value greater weapon scaling and defense over raw damage gains.
Luck can also boost the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance which increases with each level and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be improved by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) for a further +40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.
Moreover some items, such as the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items are available in the shops or made with the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chance of success of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item if it fails.
The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased as much, and the chance that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..
The Luck of an item may affect the success of an upgrade. Each item has an average success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases this chance by five percent.
The item upgrade overlays are rendered above the items in the inventory. This can obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
