They also have a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned up quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in removing dog hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.
It's still a great deal, especially if your office or home has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save money. It's also quiet and works while you are at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. And, if you have to change the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has a self-emptying bin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, however it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performing mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it learns the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross-contamination. It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competition. It's one of our most attractive looking best robot vacuum cleaner and mop vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).
It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work, or at night when you're trying to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and look better. This is a two-in-one automatic vacuum cleaner that's extremely powerful, but it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the automatic vacuum cleaner works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on the degree of dirt they tend to be.
For larger homes it's recommended to choose one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your house using the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you own a lot furniture. iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance.
