The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have tested. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature the feature of Carpet Boost that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a great option for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and can work when you're at work or going to school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, however it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a carpeted room to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be utilized to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competitors. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot vacuum reviews that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot vacuums with mop we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's an eerily noisy device that could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some additional cost this is a capable two-in-one that should delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning robot mop and vacuum for various areas of the home based on how dirty these areas are.

For larger houses, it's worth opting for a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have lot furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would think from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app also provides access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that is less intuitive, and a smaller base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
