Guide To Item Upgrades: The Intermediate Guide In Item Upgrades
Path of Exile Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a common and crucial method to enhance the performance of numerous items in Path of Exile. They can be a good source of additional damage and more AD or even more attachments.
In most cases, however upgraded Common and Magic gear is often surpassed by Rare-grade gear because of their high requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades are a kind of upgrade that can be applied to armor and weapon items. They improve the stats of whatever item they are connected to. Upgrades to armor can be found in the world of the game and are available from Blacksmiths on bonfires. Additionally, they can be salvaged from items that have upgrade components inside them, with a professional or higher salvage kit.
The amount of damage that an armored item or weapon can absorb depends on the level of its upgrades. The upgrade of an armor piece to maximum upgrade level will boost the damage it absorbs. However, it's important to note that this will also increase its weight, which will cause it to weigh more than it was before.
There are a variety of armor upgrades available in the game. Each one has a distinct impact. For instance, certain upgrades give the armor a certain amount of health points while others will make it lighter and stronger. The name of the upgrade will tell you the kind of upgrade that an item will be given, as illustrated below.
A few upgrades also feature magical or a combination of technology and magic which is shown by the "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Additionally, some upgrades require a fee to use, which are identified by a "Charges" entry in the table below. These charges are constantly updated or never expire, depending on the upgrade.
The cheapest method of upgrading armor is with Iron Ore, which can be found by exploring the area and looting minor loot chests. Titanium is more expensive however, it is available from smelters located in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, like the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied on armor pieces of the highest level. These upgrades can give significant boost to stats and are worth the investment, especially for 1-handed weapons.
The player must be aware, however, that upgrading a piece up to the max upgrade level will boost its defense. However, it will also decrease its agility and its speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor past +9. The defensive boost gained generally isn't worth the weight and power costs of the upgrades.
Weapons
Weapon upgrades allow players to improve the effectiveness of specific aspects of the weapon. For example, an upgrade may improve the damage that is caused by a shotgun's shells or the accuracy of the sniper rifle. Certain firearms also have enhancements that enhance their intrinsic characteristics. These include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and decreases the chance of weapon overheating) and Kinetic Coils (increases projectile acceleration for more damage).
The majority of upgrades for weapons require a whetblade. It's one of three Power Dices and a different amount Minerals and Erons. These are obtained through either completing Side Quests, taking out a certain number of monsters or bosses or from the Weapon Upgrade NPC in Central Flarine.
Upgrading a Weapon, Equipment Set piece, or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade cost of a set number of Bars. The more bars required to complete an upgrade the more advanced the level. The cost of upgrading will be less if you have more than one of the upgrade materials.
In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade items your weapon and equipment sets has changed a bit. Prior to Chapter 2 Season 5 you could upgrade your weapon and equipment by paying a specific amount of Bars. You could do this until the weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level at which point the upgrades would be reset.
It's possible, but it depends heavily on RNG. Instead, you're much better off going to stores and buying equipment that has low upgrade levels but excellent base scores and stat distributions. These gears have a higher likelihood of granting you highest level of benefits and blessings.
To improve their skills quicker, players usually be more inclined to upgrade their weapons. Additionally, players should consider upgrading the weapons that are most popular with their squadmates to make them more powerful and effective. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R to make it more useful when paired with biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.
Jewels
Jewels are utilized in the sockets of armor and weapons, increasing a stat and providing secondary effects. Jewelry crafting is the process of making them, where you combine the gemstone with specific reagents in a jewelry table. The higher the grade of the gem has, the more powerful its secondary effect. These reagents are obtained in the world through Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and occasionally by salvaging Legendary gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Prisms and gold.
The Jeweler can enhance the quality of the gem in stages that range from Crude up to Royal. The boosts to stats will differ depending on the tier the jewel is at when it's slotted into jewelry, weapons, or equipment.
All levels of jewels can be crafted at the Jeweler, with the exception of the rare and legendary jewels that require you to be at a high enough level to obtain these. Jewels can be replaced with another jewel without destroying the original. You can only replace the gem only once in a piece of equipment.
It is typical to use more jewelry to enhance the appearance of. Jewels also enhance performance and create an outer layer that is more durable than steel so that repeated friction caused by pivots does not cause damage to them.
A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs to enhance the look of your shields and weapons. These glyphs offer a small boost in power and can be exchanged, however they are not guaranteed to show up as loot. Glyphs, just like jewelry, can be upgraded by the Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Crystals and gold. Glyphs can also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade item components, such as traits and aegis, aren't swappable and item upgrades can only be retrieved using an Upgrade Extractor, or by salvaging them using Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.
Trinkets
Trinkets can be used to provide your hero with a variety of small, but beneficial, benefits. You can find them in the start-up area as loot or as personal story rewards. They can also be obtained from vendors as well as through doing road interaction. They can be purchased from the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.
The first trinket a player can unlock is the cloak. It grants a small but valuable boost in speed of movement and the ability to evade. The player can then collect necklaces, amulets, Item upgrades and rings in a similar fashion similar to how they obtained weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has an upgrade slot that is either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and are able to be used on any device. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced and are only compatible with certain trinkets.
These trinkets provide additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't fighting. This lets a hero be more efficient while inactive. It can also make up for the lack of a strong team or talent tree slots which would normally be filled by a hero's top stats.
A good rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best item upgrade-in-Slot) items that you aren't planning to replace soon, followed by any items with desirable stats, but less important than the iLevel of the item being upgraded. This is particularly true if an item has multiple stats that you'd like to upgrade, as it's usually more beneficial to upgrade one crucial stat than two subpar ones.
Jungle players usually upgrade their yellow trinkets to a red trinket at the start of the game. Top and mid players on the other hand they will select either a pink or green ward, depending on the matchup. These choices will have an impact on the ability of a hero to control the map.
In addition to the items mentioned above, players will also discover other trinkets in form of rewards and trophies throughout the game. These can be obtained by completing certain milestones within the story. For example, completing the main quest of a chapter or beating a boss. These can be viewed by selecting the appropriate achievement in the reward tab of the hero menu.
