For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.
It's still a good deal for those whose home or office has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or at night as you attempt to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and some additional cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should delight most.

Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job.
