Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses such as damage from PvE and crit chance.

If the template for upgrading a weapon is %, it will increase 3percent of its previous damage for every time it's upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases with item's level.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to give an additional stat boost or effect while they're in use. They can be obtained through making crafts, buying from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be used on equipment that has a slot. The item must be upgraded to blue before the component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied once. They are not able to be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component that is used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment and some of the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix can be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it is applied to (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of that equipment that require less Upgrade Crystals than is required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can alter the attack or defense characteristics of a weapon or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist the upgrades can be crafted at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades are available for purchase them in the cash shop or by obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

The player can have a maximum of five boost upgrades at one time; each upgrade increases the probability that a higher-level version of the item will appear at the time of the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to keep improving their equipment even if they're not sure of the extent to which it will improve following a subsequent reset.

The process of upgrading an item can be costly and it's possible that the item will be obsolete or even break if the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed when an upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the possibility of failure. Some upgrades also give an additional bonus when they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade parts that can be inserted into special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs boost the power of all nodes in a radius around them and include pre-existing affixes to equipment. Glyphs are upgraded in many ways. We recommend upgrading them as quickly as possible to level 15.

In the endgame you'll find that the most effective way to upgrade your gear is to place Glyphs. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded up to level 15 and provide a significant boost to your power on the Paragon Board.

Glyphs, the only upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and then replaced again are the most popular. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires the use of a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you choose it in your inventory. You can replace it with another Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of a Gem Store bundle or purchase, with certain unlimited-use tools, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Every Faction Crypt has the chance of dropping one of the many Glyphs as well as some rare glyphs that can be obtained as drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs You will have to attach them to your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a bonus that will boost the stats of a particular set of nodes that are within the radius of the Glyph. This will either be +40 for one of your primary stats, or +25 for two of your secondary stats, based on the Glyph.

Glyphs boost all nodes connected to them, therefore it is recommended to place Glyphs in strategic spots on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. Druids, for instance should put their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may be able to place them near their critical damage nodes.

Leveling

The item upgrade system allows players to boost the stats of specific items by adding upgraded components. This is also known as "upping". Every upgradeable item is assigned a level that determines the final stats. Upgraded items can be leveled up to a maximum level of ilvl 385. Each level of item requires various components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be bought from NPCs, or on the upgrade tab of the crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to upgrade the item, and once enough points have been earned, the upgrade will be claimed and the additional bonuses will be added to the item level upgrade.

When a player upgrades a piece of equipment it is replaced by a new item. The same armor will receive the form of a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will also have a unique bonus. This can be a downside in that the item could become more expensive even if you do not require it.

If an item fails to upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. The item will also lose any bonuses it has gained like crit chance damage to attack, other effects (such as an increase in healing over time or reloading speed). However, the player may continue to use the weapon or armor after the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. This means that if a weapon receives a crit chance boost that it will be applied prior to any attack damage increases. Slots is a brand new attribute that was added to item definitions. The value is calculated every time an upgrade item occurs.

The amount of resources required to upgrade an item are based on its rarity rating and upgrade slot count. The cost for upgrading non-premium items is the same as the base value of the upgrade. For instance, a typical equipment item might have 5 upgrades, each costing 25,600 Technology Points and 4x Quality Improvement Chance--whereas hero quality items will have an incredibly lower cost for each additional upgrade.

Premium items have different requirements for upgrading than standard gear--for instance, they might require fewer sowels, but more minerals and erons. The player will need to take each piece of gear they wish to upgrade to NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine.
