Upgrades to items are a method to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and boost additional stats.

The process of upgrading gear in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade item increases the price of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's base stats increases as it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive, depending on the upgrader you choose and what kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is due to the variety of perks that must be modified to upgrade an item.

It is also used as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It is also used to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear since PvP is not available at lower levels. Players can see their average level of item on their character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear, players can compare the item level. It's a good gauge of an item's worth and how much damage it's capable of dealing with. The level of the item can be used to evaluate items when examining the inventory of a vendor.

The item level can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the Best item upgrade's full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are several theories about how the calculation of an item's level is done. One theory is that the level is a number that comes from a formula that determines the amount an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different advantages are valued differently and that gems found in sockets boost the value of the item. This process can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to Blizzard's real level of the item.

This isn't the only factor that affects the level of an item. The degree of the area in which the item dropped can also change its stats. For example, it could increase the item's haste or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher value.

Item Stats

Item stats can make or break an Item Upgrader Kit for players. The game utilizes them in various ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to one weapon, and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats of a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods, which are themselves increased by the player's skill.

Upgrades to an item may boost its stats. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare tiers will be upgraded several times with higher prices.

Another method to alter the stats of an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes are used to give items additional damage or other special abilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs), or to distinguish them by naming them.

All affixes can be being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold and other items that can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as the other options for rerolling.

In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may select which of the available stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item level upgrade are based on the level of the item, however all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the specified range, unless it's a unique item or an item that is a God roll from a boss of a raid.

This is another thing that could be changed by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or selecting which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item upgrader kit basis and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the odds of item discoveries and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the intensity of the properties. It doesn't, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is especially beneficial in early game runs because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. These can also be increased with the use of anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can be created or spawned by using the Luck property, which has an initial value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck, or to increase the existing Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be crafted to increase the damage of any ability that causes damage by five percent. These items can be found in the shop or created using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are costly and not all upgrades will succeed. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chance of success of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item if it is not successful.

The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading the item, and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased as much, and the chance that the upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%..

The luck of an item can also influence the success of an upgrade. Each item has a base success rate of 25%, and every item level upgrade with Luck increases that chance by an additional five percent.

The upgrade overlays for items are rendered above items in the inventory. This may cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
