The 10 Scariest Things About Item Upgrading
Path of Exile Item Upgrading
Item upgrading allows players to improve their weapons and gear by adding new affixes, increasing its stats base or giving additional benefits. To upgrade an item, a player has to have it in their inventory, as well as access to the kiln.
Typically objects with weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a stronger base, while items with strong bases like eth titans aren't affected much in their stats after being upgraded.
Upgrade components
Upgrade components can be added to armors, weapons, trinkets, and gathering tools. They can be used as an attribute bonus, or additional effect, when the equipment is in use. They can be purchased from vendors, or found in loot, dropped by enemies or received as a reward from missions or chests. Some upgrades additionally have special cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level before you can upgrade items.
To upgrade a weapon, armor or other item in the game, players will need to select it and click the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will display on the right-hand side of the screen a preview showing the expected upgrade stats as well as the required component or materials.
There are three types of upgrade components that are universal upgrades, prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, like gems, can be used on any kind of equipment. They offer a lower bonus than upgrade components that are subject to a type restriction. Infusions are jewels that can only be used in legendary and ascended equipment. They provide the same bonuses as jewels, but cannot be used in other equipment. Suffix upgrades can be added to gathering tools. They will add the suffix at the end of the item's name. For example the addition of the suffix Glyph could transform a staff wrapping of Minor Vigor a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.
In the instance of upgrades for gathering tools when a player swaps one glyph by another the previous glyph will be returned to the inventory. However, replacing any other upgrade component will damage it, excluding inscriptions which can be freely swapped.
Leveling
Path of Exile's upgrade process is different from previous versions in several fundamental ways. Gear is now categorized in tracks, and each item can only be upgraded a certain number of times before it's "leveled out." The upgrade cost increases with each level up however, the materials needed aren't as high. This lets players focus their efforts on a few important items to maximize their impact rather than spreading out the upgrade costs across several pieces.
Once an item has been leveled out and is leveled out, it will be eligible for a new set of upgrade components, and a boost in the chance that the upgrade will succeed. This bonus is known as the Artisan's Energy and it resets to 0 on failure or increases when the upgrade succeeds.
When a piece of equipment is upgraded to its highest level it is able to be given affixes that increase its features. The number of affixes that are available depends on the item's base. For instance, an uncommon or unique weapon with a standard base will have only two affixes. A legend armor will have eight affixes.
Each upgrade will require a specific amount of Flightstones or Crests, based on whether the item upgrader is at its current level and what slot it is in. Typically, weapons will require more Flightstones to upgrade than other kinds of equipment.
If an item fails to attain its maximum level, the NPC offers the player the option to transfer it to a different character and then re-infuse it with a new set or upgrades. The process can take as long as two hours and costs the same amount of material, though it will result in a lower chance of success.
Engineers may use a level in order to compare the height of the building against an established point, such as the benchmark. This is referred to as a "level-loop." It involves taking readings using the backsight rod and level and then turning the level and taking the foresight rod reading. This method guarantees that the buildings are constructed with a high degree of precision and security.
Rerolling
Rerolling is the process of changing the upgrade components of an item level upgrade. It is a vital aspect of the game and can dramatically enhance an item's strength and damage as well as other characteristics. This can be done through the menu for items or by clicking the Reroll button on an upgraded item. Rerolling can be expensive and should only be performed in the rarest of circumstances.
The game allows players to recycle upgraded items, which are used to obtain reroll tokens. These tokens can then be used to upgrade the original item or an item of the same type. Recyclable items have an indicator of level that indicates how much of the upgrade gauge has been filled. The amount of level that has been filled is based on the rarity and the upgrade cost of the item.
Prior to this, some upgrades were given priority affixes which made them easier for players to roll. This meant that you would be able to get the stats that were important most to your build more often than others. These included things like the armor's total armor, thorns and duration reduction stats that are controlled or the weapon's bonus attack speed and critical strike chance.
This was changed in the latest patch. Priority affixes were removed, and all upgrades have the identical chance of rolling each stat. This could be good or bad, based on what you're looking for and want from your equipment.
Each upgraded item can be equipped with a special, fixed-value bonus that increases its strength by a certain percentage. These bonuses are offered in addition to the standard affixes. The more you improve a product, the greater your chances of receiving a unique bonus.
The game also includes a number of sets, which grant a set bonus when three or more upgraded items from the same set are equipped on an item. This is a good method to give a character a lot more power without spending a ton of money.
Many players have the habit of rerolling their weapons and gear, especially in the early stages. Rerolling can provide a much faster route to becoming a strong character, allowing them to reach high tiers and progress the game much more quickly.

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom offers an extensive selection of set items that can be upgraded. Some items are worth upgrading while others aren't. Upgrades are worthwhile for armor sets with high defense values and set bonuses. However, most upgrades to weapons do not improve the item's stats much compared to their counterparts in purple. This makes them less appealing to upgrade if you have lots of armor pieces or weapons.

Both were upgraded to Extraordinary Winged Helms and Exceptional Mirrored Boots, respectively. This increased their defense from 217 to 321. (Strength requirements and Level requirements also increased).

To determine if an item is worth upgrading, players can click the Upgrade button in the character screen. The Best item upgrade's attributes will be displayed, along with any required items. To upgrade the No-mouth face for example, 1.1K Scrap Materials will be required, along with 250 Enchanted Dust and 5 Glowing Shards.
