Recycled Items
Recycling old items is an excellent way to reduce the amount of waste we generate. These items can be reused into new products and the process of making these items requires less energy and resources than making them from raw materials. Recycled products also emit less carbon dioxide, which is good for the environment. However, it is important to recognize that not all items are made from recycled materials. When buying a product be sure to look for labels that state the percentage of recycled materials in the product.
All-day materials such as plastic, paper and aluminum can be recycled into a variety of products. The most common are tubs and bottles (with lids and caps) and paper cartons such as soup, juice, milk and broth, and tin and steel cans. It is recommended to rinse these containers and get rid of any food particles prior to recycling them.
In addition to this we also recycle textiles, such as shirts pants and blankets. These are less common however, they can be reused to make a new product for a small cost. Some local thrift stores and malls offer recycling bins for these items Some companies even pay for old clothing. Other items, like ceramic plates and mugs can be repurposed by local artists to make unique gifts.
Recycling is faced with numerous challenges, including contamination. When recyclables and non-recyclables are mixed, they can become less valuable or unusable. Education and better sorting methods are the key to tackling contamination.
There are a growing number of manufacturers offering an expanded range of products made of recycled materials. It is essential to purchase these items whenever you can since they can help support the recycling industry. Certain of these products are available in major stores, while others can be found online. In addition, a lot of these items are made with Cradle to Cradle certification standards that can be verified through online searches. These standards are designed to ensure that the item is safe for the environment as well as its users.
