WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also increased with every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item upgrader mod is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of armor or weapons. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade item your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current item level of the item being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and accessories. They can be purchased from NPCs of item upgraders in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show a preview of an item level Upgrade's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current item level. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of getting an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety of methods. This is both a positive and a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade item system has been altered a bit, with several new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a specific level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less, even when they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a variety of options. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

First, you must be aware that the crests can only be purchased for equipment that is of a certain rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade items route costs 15 crests while the more complex one requires as many as 20 crests based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities, or by doing dungeons or raids in all difficulty levels to obtain equipment of lower tier or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons that have a high difficulty to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it does bring some changes to the upgrade process. For example, once an item upgrader kit reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one usage therefore it's essential to make use of them in a responsible manner. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment you can locate, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
