WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in certain statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item level upgrade by +3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as important for those with lower requirements because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapons. However, the item Level Upgrade used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

The upgrader is located in every major city, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your gear. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. For example upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items which can be used to upgrade weapons and tools, armor and other items. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and the current item upgrading level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers, for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items are available in many places on the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of getting the latest recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no item upgrader available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via various methods, which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with numerous new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a particular level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading additional items to the same level will cost less even in the event that they are part of another set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have several choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be spent on gear of a specific rank, and every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests, based on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities, or by doing dungeons or raids in all difficulty levels to obtain lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated, but the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they have only one purpose. For instance it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrader gear you have available, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly true for items like rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to avail the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
