However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.

However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also quiet and works when you're at work or in school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning robot mop and vacuum.

With an elegant, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes this robot vacuum cleaners best vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive designs in our reviews. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and a little more cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with how dirty they tend to be.

For larger houses, it's worth opting for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or voice controls. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. Finally a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
