Upgrades to items are a method to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it could boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its basic stats are increased in value. The value is the sum of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game uses them in a variety of ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to a single weapon, and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The stat modifications of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then increased by the player's level.

Upgrades to the item level upgrade add by increasing certain stats of the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item, for example, will only be upgraded one time and items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with higher costs.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of the properties. However, it does not directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is more beneficial in early game runs since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances, which increase with each new level of item. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can be created or spawned by using the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on their material type) to add another 40 luck or to boost the luck of the item to 140.

Moreover there are certain items, like the Hollow infused weapon can be used to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be purchased at the store or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.

When you upgrade an item, the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limits to how much success rates can be increased and the probability of a failed upgrade cannot be greater than 100%..

The success of an item upgrade is also affected by the luck of the item. All items have an initial success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases that chance by 5%.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects can be obstructed by the overlays.
