What Freud Can Teach Us About Item Upgrade
WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades can give you an increase in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random additional substat is also added to every upgrade.
The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.
The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader every several weeks.
The cost of upgrades will depend on the current item level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than buying new equipment from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are functional items which can be used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with a button, which displays a preview of the item at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.
The cost of upgrading varies based on the item Level Upgrade slot, and the current item level. For example weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree and is degraded, it can be sold and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.
Upgraders for items are available in a variety of locations on the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade items discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.
In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit as well as a disadvantage.
In Season 3, many new features have been added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a specific level of an item level upgrade for a specific armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will be less expensive, even if they belong to an entirely different set of gear.
The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is available across all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced also, but is only available once certain milestones are reached.
Crests
Players have a number of choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.
The first thing to remember is that the crests can only be purchased for equipment with a certain rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complex may require as many as 20 crests based on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.
Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrade upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.
The use of these currencies isn't that difficult, but the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their equipment to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.
It's also important to use crests with care, since they have only one purpose. For instance it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrader equipment you have, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan on making. This is particularly relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
