The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention. It leaves your floors spotless. Its low cost and top-of-the-line functions (such as a dirt detectors) are positives.

Make sure to check your robot's brushes frequently for tangled debris and hair. Clean them as needed. Some models can also self-empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in a larger bin at the base. This helps reduce the amount of fine dust that gets released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have test. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other top iRobot models (including the top pick) they utilize intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also come with carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it sees the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on bare floors, Robot Hoover and they are particularly adept in removing dog hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great deal for those whose office or home has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or going to school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo makes use of advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is great for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could sweep the entire house, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming it, something hasn't been seen in other robotic hoovers vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's compact models This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot vacuum that mops that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has a perfect 10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's a noisy unit, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient, but it's more expensive and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the automatic vacuum cleaner's dustbin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection but this was not reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty those areas tend to be.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home by using the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be useful if you have a large furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It features an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
