Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a certain amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its stats improve in value. This is the sum of all the upgraded perks (attack, magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, depending on the upgrader you choose and the kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to the variety of perks that must be altered to upgrade an item.

The level of an item is a widely used measurement of power and is visible on all tooltips for items. It also serves as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and item upgrader scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to an lower level). Players can see their average level of items on their character sheet.

When deciding whether to buy or sell equipment, players can compare the item level. It's a useful indicator of an item's quality and the amount of damage it is capable of causing. Comparing items from the inventory of a vendor can be done by using the item's level.

The level of the item can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including the ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are a few theories about how the calculation of the item's level is done. One theory is that the item level is a number derived from a formula which calculates the value of an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in the sockets increase the value of the item. This can lead to a calculated item's ilvl that is often very close to Blizzard's real item level.

This is not the only factor that influences the value of an item. The level of the area where the item dropped can also alter its stats. Item Stats

The item's stats can make or break an item upgrading for players. The base stats of a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modification which are then boosted by the player's level.

Upgrades to an item may increase its stats. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with the rare tiers will be upgraded several times with higher prices.

Another way to change the stats on an item is through affixes. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes are used to provide items with extra damage or special capabilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs) or to distinguish them by adding a name.

All affixes are being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and other items that can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other options for rerolling.

Players can upgrade an item by specific stats or reroll affixes. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However each item will include at least one stat within the same range, unless it's an item that is unique, or a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another aspect that could be altered by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to boost. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item level, and the interface for comparing items would not display all the possible stats gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of these properties. However, it doesn't directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players a chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game and is therefore more valuable in the initial game run than later ones since most players prefer greater weapon scaling and defense over damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increases with each level of the item and can be further increased through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to grant a further +40 Luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be outfitted to increase the damage of any ability that causes damage by 5%. These items are available in the shop or crafted with the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations to the extent to which the success rates can be improved and the chance of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%..

The success of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of that item. All items have an initial success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases that chance by an additional 5percent.

The upgrade overlays of the item are rendered above items in the inventory. This may block enchantment effects as well as other effects.
