WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you an increase in certain statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

The more modernized gear generally has a more value in trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapons. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrading will depend on the current item level of the gear being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that are used to upgrade weapons and tools, armor and accessories. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool with the help of The button will show the item's next upgrade level, when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item and the current level of the Item Level Upgrade. For example weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations, including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount as well as a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases with the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via several methods which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade items system has been modified a bit, and numerous new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade item to a certain level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading further items to that same item level will cost less even in the event that they are part of another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut also, but is only available once certain milestones are reached.

Crests

Players have a number of options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment that is of a particular rank, and each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade can require up to 20 crests, contingent on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it will bring some changes to the upgrade process. For instance, when an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to get their gear up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. For instance it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the Best item upgrade equipment you have, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly true for items like rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character that will be able to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all slots are filled with high-quality gear.
