WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item upgrader mod that is used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and is accessible at any time to upgrade your gear. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item level, however they'll always be less expensive than purchasing new gear. For instance upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that are used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be bought by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the Item Level Upgrade and the current level of the item and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Item upgraders can be found in many places including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no item upgrader available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via various methods, which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with several new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a particular item upgrader mod level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to the same level will cost less, even if they belong to another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is available across all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

Players have a variety of options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

First, you must be aware that Crests are only available to equipment of a certain rank. Each rank has distinct upgrade paths. The simplest and simplest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, depending on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulties to get lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons that have a high difficulty to obtain endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't too difficult however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrader gear that you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character that will be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
