The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in removing dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our first option. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.
It's still a good deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you want to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or going to school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to change the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxy units This mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).
It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuum with mop in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work, or during the night when you are trying to sleep.

The smart robot vacuums best utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home depending on the amount of dirt they tend to be.
If you own a larger home, you should consider selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance.
