The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.
It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.

The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot vacuum that mops that is able to wash mop pads).
It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map.
