This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop utilizes advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it will learn the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the competitors. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
