One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great deal for those whose office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and can work while you're at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

It also comes with a self-emptying bin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best automatic vacuum robot automatic hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross contamination. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the competition. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It features advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot vacuum cleaner that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite loud, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and a little more cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features to help you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to the amount of dirt they are.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home using the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. Finally the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It does a stellar job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app also grants access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana.
