WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boost in specific statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees greater value for trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs of item upgraders for a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For instance, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW players have a few options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item upgrades level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the more complex one requires as many as 20 crests depending on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content at the appropriate level. This could be by engaging in outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in all difficulties to get equipment of lower tier or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult however, the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece of equipment has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all of their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one use and it's crucial to use them properly.
