Both robots excel at picking up surface debris off carpets and hard floors and they're excellent in getting around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes a smart map of your home to help the i3+ navigate and clean up efficiently. However, unlike the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we evaluated, the i3+ doesn't have obstacle-avoidance capabilities, so it may be stuck on things like socks or power cords and it may have trouble in navigating through transitions between surfaces, such as from hardwood to carpet.

iRobot recommends clearing areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, and include clearing out any clutter or toys it may encounter. It's also recommended to keep the bin and filter clean so they do not become blocked by dirt. When the i3+'s internal bin is full or the battery is depleted it goes back to its docking station, automatically empties its dirt into the station's dust bin and then resumes cleaning where it began. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for about an hour and a half of continuous use, and it takes about three hours to fully recharge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model in iRobot's flagship line, and it is equipped with the most recent features. It's best self cleaning robot vacuum-charging and self-navigating. In our tests the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our runner-up, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface kinds including carpeting. We were also impressed with the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot on how to start or stop cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room, and to vacuum a particular area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. We were able, once connected, to voice commands to the i7+, such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options for managing the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with vacuums with cords that are like minivans and buses, this small Dyson model feels like an old-fashioned sports car. It's powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in a majority of homes, but also small enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell, high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86% of it. However, it did not do particularly well in avoiding higher-up objects like cords or socks which was disappointing. It's also a little more expensive than the other models we tried, which might be a deal-breaker for some shoppers.
