Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like Crit chance and damage from PvE.

For example an item with the upgrade template ending in % will gain an attack damage of 3% each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

Components

Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, armor, and weapons to give them a stat boost or an extra effect. These can be obtained by making crafts, buying from vendors or trading with other players, or looting. Certain upgrades also come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to devices that have slots. The item must be upgraded to blue before a component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied once. A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it is applied to (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, which allows players to create stronger versions of the equipment that require fewer Upgrade Crystals than are required to achieve the same level of upgrade through normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defence characteristics of the weapon or armor. Leveling

The item will also lose any bonuses it earned, such as crit chance, item Upgrading attack damage, or additional effects (such as increased heal over time or the speed of reloading).
