However, unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots we evaluated, the i3+ doesn't have any obstacle-avoidance features which means it can be stuck on things like socks or power cords, and it may have trouble navigating across surface transitions, such as from hardwood to rug.

iRobot recommends clearing areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, including getting rid of any toys or clutter it might encounter. It's also an excellent idea to keep the bin and filter clean so they do not become blocked by dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is depleted, it returns to the docking station, and it automatically emptys the dirt into the docking station’s external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning where it began. The i3+ EVO's battery lasts for approximately an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes about three hours to fully recharge.

2. iRobot i7+ Roomba

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and comes with the latest technology. It has self-charging and self-navigating. But the most significant feature is the self-emptying bin. This removes the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can control your robot through the app or via voice.

The i7+ is faster and more agile in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from any surface including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy, though the dust bin is self-emptying that removes a major source of maintenance and cuts down on recurring costs.

We were also awestruck by the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot on how to begin or stop cleaning sessions and also to move around the room and to vacuum a particular area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. Once connected, to give voice commands to the i7+ like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is an athletic car in a world of cordless vacuums that feel like minivans and buses. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum for most households and can fit nicely on the table for a coffee or the bookshelf, that you can spin around like an enchanted device.

The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system captures allergens, and then releases cleaner air into your home. The specialized head uses rigid nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets, and then pick up large dust or crumbs. It has three suction modes that can be adapted to the specific task. It quickly converts from handheld to floor vacuum and back again.

The model also comes with a dock that charges to 100% in around 3.5 hours, and gives users an easy access to two attachments and a wand clip. This is a huge improvement over earlier Dysons models, which require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.

The biggest issue with the V10 is its sluggish run time. Its marketing claims that it can last up to 60 minutes of run time are not true as CR's tests have shown. This is a common battery-powered cordless vacuum's running time. That's still enough run time to vacuum the majority of a home that's average size, but not quite long enough to cover every area (though a second run-through usually does the trick). This doesn't mean that this model doesn't have its benefits: It's lighter and mobile than the older cordless Dysons and its vacuuming performance is significantly better on low-pile carpet.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

One of the most well-known robot vacuums, the 694 is an affordable model that's an excellent choice for people who don't want to invest too much on a robotic. It's capable of sucking up all types of debris and sizes during our tests, and it often goes over the same areas many times to give a thorough clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach the corners and edges of walls.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt technology to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home. However, it isn't equipped with the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, including our top picks, i3+EVO and j7+ Series. This means that it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords and furniture that isn't in good condition, and frequently is power-depleted before returning to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in many ways, as it has fewer parts that require regular cleaning, is fitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, has more advanced automation capabilities and is better at moving itself. It also has a bigger dustbin, and charges more quickly.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba. It also comes with physical boundaries strips that can be controlled with the voice assistant on your smartphone. It's also more durable, has a stronger motor, and performs better on floors with bare or low-pile.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a household name in the field of home electronics. It's no surprise that they are also among the top producers of robot vacuums robot and mop. Their Jet Bot AI+ is loaded with cutting-edge onboard intelligence tech for navigation and obstacles avoidance.

In our testing of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, clearing up 86 percent of it. However, it did not do particularly well with larger objects, like cords and socks which was a disappointment. It's also more expensive than the other models we've tested and this could be a deal breaker for certain shoppers.

The app allows you to steer the robot vacuum cleaners manually when needed. My living room rug, for example is darkly colored which could cause a problem for other robots. However the HRV 425BL kept moving across the border, but it didn't register it as an incline. The ability to program a cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving advantage.
