Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

It's still a good deal particularly if your home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it when you're at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and offer more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning robot mop and vacuum schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is great to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could sweep the entire house and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on various flooring and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy units of the rivals. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and best robot hoover boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's loud that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and better-looking. If you're willing to put up some more volume and a little more cost it's a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and cleans and dry mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

If you own a larger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have number of furniture. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would imagine from its price. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and an auto vacuum and mop-emptying washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up an area for best robot hoover cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we've test. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
